Umang Pathshala

Founded in 2012, Disha Trust is a non-profit Organisation.

Brick factories are one of the most exploitative forms of child labour in India.

In Sonipat district of Haryana, Disha Trust has been trying to get children of brick kiln workers enrolled into schools, however, the environment has not been encouraging for the students to continue schooling. Their lives are tough to imagine – dust, barren lands, no shelter, no facilities of toilets, sanitation, lack of clean water, absolute dearth of basic amenities.

We are providing a safe space and friendly environment to children in the Brick factory. Through Umang Pathshala, over 150 adolescents from brick kiln factories around Sonipat district will receive education. The schooling will

commit to providing theadolescents safe space, friendly environment, free from bias, with utmost dignity. Innovative education techniques will be used, such as skill-based lessons, games, along with academics. There will be additional emphasis on nutrition and hygiene. Five Umang Pathshalas will be set up in close proximity to brick kilns around Sonipat district.

In the initial phase, the adolescents will be provided non-formal education besides the academic courses of school. Before the project implementation their parents were counseled to acknowledge the importance of education. We strongly believe parents play a crucial role in fostering a proper environment for education.

The courses will be designed for three categories i.e:

Sub- Junior group (4 to 6 years of age)

Junior Group (7 to 10 years of age)

Senior Group (11 to 14 years of age).

The major objective of this project is to provide basic education, capacity development training, skill building through the innovative school education system of Umang Pathshala. We aim to reach more than 500 children currently being deprived of dignified livelihood in the next one year.

We promise to provide:

  1. Quality education through innovative techniques.
  2. Basic education and fulfill the learning gap to those children who are school dropouts.
  3. Safe and friendly environment to explore themselves in their own imaginative world.
  4. Provide hygienic nutritional food for their mental and physical development.
  5. Safe & supportive environment for young girls to learn through the various workshops and training.
  6. To make children able to pursue their studies in age appropriate classes in nearby village schools at a later stage.
